HPAE 5094 University Hospital Contract Update – July 28, 2016
On Monday, July 25th, we had our fourteenth negotiation session with UH management. This session was attended by many members from IS&T and PM&R. Thanks to all those who came out to show your support for the negotiating team – it really makes a huge difference.
The session was fairly productive. We were able to get agreements on our grievance and discipline language – two articles we have spent a ton of time discussing, so it is nice to be able to put those to rest and move on to other issues.
We were also able to finally come to an agreement on drug and alcohol testing. Your team fought hard to ensure that all our members’ rights would be protected and that this process could never be used by a manager to target someone. In the end it is a fair settlement of the issue which, while addressing management’s concerns, truly ensures our members won’t be abused by this new policy.
There was still no economic counter offer by management. Instead they returned to the issue of mid-employment background checks. They claim this is a must have for them – but cannot point to any single instance when one of our members was convicted of some horrible crime they never knew about. Instead, they want us to agree to a massive invasion of our members’ privacy “just because”.
We are hoping to set another date for August 8th. It is our hope that we can continue to resolve many of these final issues and move on to wages. Stay tuned!
