UH Local 5089 -Important Updates
HPAE has received numerous concerns from our members about the staffing levels on many units. We are addressing these issues with management however it is imperative that you remember to protect yourself, your rights and your patients by doing the following:
- Notify management of your concerns related to your assignment and advise them of your objections, (however never refuse an assignment as that is considered insubordination).
- Fill out an Unsafe Staffing form as soon as you determine that the conditions are unsafe in your professional judgment.
- Every member working on your shift on that unit should sign the same form as it will protect everyone. Remember: it only takes one unstable patient to make the entire unit unstable, therefore everyone should sign in solidarity.
- Fax a copy of the Unsafe Staffing Form to 201-262-4335 and then place in the assigned binder on your unit.
Next, Joint Commission is due to return to the Hospital soon and it is imperative that every member review the booklet entitled, “Putting It All Together: What Every Employee Needs To Know” prior to their return. Unfortunately, at the last inspection, concern was expressed that employees were seen not wearing their masks properly while in the Hospital.
