HPAE Statement on the death of Maria Ambrocio of HPAE Local 5185

Please attribute the following statement to HPAE President Debbie White, RN, and John Bauer, RN, President of HPAE local 5185:

Our HPAE family is in deep mourning today after the tragic death of Maria Ambrocio, an HPAE Local 5185 member who worked in the Oncology unit at Bayonne Medical Center. Ambrocio was critically injured during a street mugging at New York City’s Times Square on Friday. Unfortunately, she passed away at Bellevue Hospital on the evening of Saturday, October 9th.

Ambrocio was an active HPAE member for more than two decades and was well known in the hospital and in the Bayonne community. She is remembered as a loving, kind-hearted nurse who gave her all for her patients. We are left with a hole in our hearts this morning as we try to come to terms with her untimely death.

HPAE members have suffered so much throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our union will be connecting members with grief counseling.
