Local 5629 member Update, June 22, 2023

We want to thank all of the members who came out to yesterday’s Emergency Membership Meeting and want to bring everyone up to date with what we currently know and understand about the situation.

At this time, we have no reason to believe that Sunrise House/AAC is exempt under either the State or Federal WARN Acts. Therefore, we believe that members are entitled to significantly more financial benefits than that currently being promised by AAC.

As you know we have put in a formal demand to bargain about the effects of the closure and hope management will meet their legal obligation to bargain and reach an agreement to protect all of our members. At this time, our General Counsel advises that no employees sign the “Separation Agreement” being mailed to laid off employees until we have had an opportunity to review the document and reach an agreement with management – we believe that their insistence on this document violates multiple laws. As soon as our attorney has reviewed the document, we will provide further guidance.

At the meeting, we were fortunate to have a representative of the NJ Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Team to provide members with information about unemployment benefits – the PowerPoint Presentation that she gave is available here.

We also had information about Health Benefit coverage for members when AAC coverage ends. That flyer is available here.

We will continue to let you know information as soon as we can.

In solidarity,

HPAE Local 5629 Executive Board
