Notice of 2024 Nominations and Election Of HPAE Local 8071R HPAE and AFT Convention Delegates and Alternates
If you have submitted an earlier form, it will be accepted. The Nominations/Election Committee announces that we are now accepting nominations to represent Local 8071R at this year’s HPAE State Convention, as well as the AFT National Convention. You may nominate an individual for one or both conventions. An explanation of each convention can be found below and the procedure for nominations below that. Members may nominate themselves.
Please note: You may only run for local delegate (if you are a member-at-large of a local) or local 8071R delegate, but not both. If a delegate cannot attend, the alternate receiving the highest number of votes will take their place.
The nomination/election committee is currently accepting nominations for these positions.
HPAE STATE CONVENTION
The Local will elect two (2) delegates and two (2) alternates to attend this year’s convention which will be held at Tropicana, Atlantic City, New Jersey, October 17-18, 2024. There is no reimbursement available to 8071R delegates.
POSITIONS: Two (2) delegates and two (2) alternates to represent Local 8071R
AFT NATIONAL CONVENTION
The Local will elect one (1) delegate and one (1) alternate to attend this year’s convention which will be held at George R Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, July 22nd – 25th , 2024. HPAE will pay for one delegate to attend, reimbursable up to $2,500, for travel and room expenses (room based on double occupancy)
POSITIONS: One (1) delegate and one (1) alternate to represent Local 8071R
NOMINATIONS PROCEDURE: Attached you will find a Nomination/Declaration Statement. Submitted forms containing a consent to serve must contain the signature of the nominee indicating that the member accepts the nomination, or they will not be accepted. Consent forms must also be accompanied by the last four digits of the nominee’s social security number. Return completed form directly to HPAE Local 8071R Nominations/Elections, PO Box 119, Emerson, New Jersey, 07630 or email to elections@hpae.org. The members receiving the highest number of votes will become delegates and the next highest number will be alternates based on the number of positions allowed. ELECTION DATE: Ballots to be mailed to all members on May 2, 2024, and must be returned by May 20, 2024. Candidates may be present for the mailing of the ballots. If it is an uncontested election, the committee will cast one ballot on behalf of the slate, in which case no ballots will be sent. Please advise the committee if you wish to be present at the mailing of the ballots.
ELIGIBILITY: Any HPAE Local 8071R member in good standing thirty (30) days prior to the election is eligible to run for delegate or alternate.
