Contract Settlement at Rowan University

The HPAE Local 5094 and 5089 bargaining team has reached a tentative agreement with Rowan University management and the Governor’s Office for a new contract covering Rowan-SOM Professionals and Registered Nurses. This is the locals’ first contract since the break-up of UMDNJ and the merger with Rowan University. Local 5094 and 5089 protected existing contract standards while making a number of significant improvements. Local 5089 and 5094 members at Rowan University are voting on the contract settlement today.

Chief of Staff Jeanne Otersen Is Leaving HPAE

After 22 years on our staff, Jeanne Otersen is leaving HPAE tomorrow. Jeanne has played a central role in helping HPAE become the largest and most well-respected healthcare union in New Jersey. Since she joined the staff in 1994, Jeanne has guided our public policy and legislative programs. In recent years, she has also assumed overall responsibility for coordinating the work of our staff and our union’s strategic plan.  After leaving HPAE, Jeanne will be joining the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) as the Associate Director of  AFT’s healthcare division in Washington, D.C. We will miss Jeanne tremendously, but we wish her all the best in her new job and new life in Washington, D.C.



Repeal of ACA Could Hurt NJ’s Patients, Health, and Economy

If President-elect Donald Trump succeeds in repealing the Affordable Care Act, one in 10 adults in New Jersey would likely lose their newly acquired coverage. They also would have fewer options for obtaining another medical care plan than they had six years ago, before the law took effect.

Act Now to Cap Out-of-Network Charges, Urge Legislators to Pass S-1285/A-1592

Legislation is advancing in the NJ Senate and Assembly that would crackdown on out-of-network health insurance charges, saving more than $1 billion every year for consumers, businesses, and taxpayers. The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee is scheduled to consider the bill on Monday, December 5, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
