HPAE Local 5089 Update on Rutgers’ response to ongoing raise and retro issues

Since our last update several weeks ago, HPAE Local 5089 Leadership and HPAE staff have continued to demand answers from Rutgers regarding the ongoing issues related to the retro payments for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 and FY2024 salary increases, as well as outstanding raises that many of our members are still owed. We have followed up for the outstanding requested information on 11/7, 11/17, 11/22, and 12/8, and 12/15. We have continued to ask for additional meetings to get answers as to the following overarching questions:

  • What is holding up the processing of all raises and any outstanding retro pay?
  • Why has Rutgers failed to inform the negotiations unit members of HPAE Locals 5089 and 5094 that these pay issues are ongoing?
  • When will Rutgers straighten out all outstanding pay issues?

Additionally, this week we will begin the process of moving to arbitration the class action grievances we filed regarding Rutgers’ violation of the Wages Articles in our contract. Our goal is to utilize all available means to try and resolve these outstanding issues.

We continue to urge anyone who is still waiting for retro pay and/or raises to file a wage theft complaint with the state of NJ if you have not done so already. Instructions on how to file a wage complaint can be found here: NJ DOL Wage Complaint instructions for Rutgers Raise and Retro Pay.docx.

In addition to wanting to update you on the overall fight, we wanted to provide specific updates and reminders regarding increases to differentials to each group of nurses in Local 5089:

We will continue the fight to ensure that Rutgers pays out every penny owed to Local 5089 negotiations unit members for as long as it takes.

Happy Holidays,

Sabrina Brown Oliver, Vice President HPAE Local 5089
